Personal Intelligence

A modern way to understand emotion, connection, and motivation.

A research-backed approach to studying, coaching, training and playing with the science of human behaviour.

Adaptimist uses its flagship model, the Multidimensional Inventory for Personal Intelligence, to power an entire ecosystem of products that help people understand themselves, build better relationships, and stay motivated in the moments that matter.

Explore with us and discover a place where the science of the inner world becomes easy to understand.

The big idea

Personal Intelligence: emotion, connection, and motivation working together.

The MIPI doesn’t just measure “emotional intelligence.” It looks at how you understand your feelings, connect with others, and stay motivated over time. Use the slider below to explore each part.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

Emotional competencies are about how you notice, name, and make sense of your feelings. The MIPI considers a variety of emotion-based competencies that help you reflect on and communicate what’s going on inside.

In the MIPI Long…

  • Emotional Understanding (EU)
  • Introspectiveness (IN)
  • Attentiveness (AT)
  • Emotional Communication (EC)

Everyday signals

  • You can usually tell what you’re feeling and why.
  • You notice shifts in your mood before they spill over.
  • It feels easier to put inner experience into words.
For individuals

Start with the MIPI Short.

The MIPI Short is a free, research-based snapshot of your Personal Intelligence — how emotion, connection, and motivation work together in your life. Use the tabs below to see what the feedback looks like.

A clear, 3-page snapshot.

The MIPI Short report gives you a high-level overview of your Personal Intelligence, followed by simple explanations of what your scores mean and where you might want to focus next.

It’s designed to move you quickly from “numbers on a page” to concrete language you can use to think about how you show up with other people and in your work.

For coaches

Turn personal intelligence data into a coaching superpower.

The MIPI Coaching App helps you send assessments, see rich client reports, and turn scores into practical next steps. Use the views below to see how it fits into your practice.

For organizations

Train your people with group data, not guesswork.

Adaptimist uses group MIPI scores to design soft skills programmes that actually match your people. Instead of generic workshops, you get a curriculum built around your organization’s real emotional, social, and motivational patterns.

Whether you’re running workforce development, leadership cohorts, or community programmes, we start by understanding how your participants show up — then build a sequence of modules, activities, and facilitator supports to fit.

Assess your group

Everyone completes the MIPI Short so we can see how emotion, connection, and motivation show up across your group. You get a clear profile of strengths, pressure points, and hidden opportunities.

  • Simple online link or QR code for participants.
  • Group report summarising emotional, social, and motivational patterns.
  • Ready to plug into your existing programmes or new initiatives.
For researchers

Validated. Reliable. Grounded in real data.

The MIPI Short is a modern measure of Personal Intelligence with strong reliability, clear structure, measurement invariance, and incremental validity beyond personality traits.

Measurement invariance

Multi-group confirmatory factor analyses show that the MIPI Short holds the same three-factor E–S–M structure and item functioning across gender groups, supporting fair comparisons and interpretation of group differences in Personal Intelligence (Van Rens et al., 2024).

Who’s behind Adaptimist?

A. Geoffrey Crane, and a decade of stubborn curiosity.

Adaptimist is led by A. Geoffrey Crane, a researcher and educator at Trent University whose work sits at the intersection of emotion, behaviour, and what he calls personal intelligence. For the past decade, he’s been building tools that help people understand how their feelings, relationships, and motivations fit together.

By day, Geoff works alongside colleagues and students, publishing research and refining the models behind the MIPI. By night (and many weekends), he turns those models into practical things people can actually use: assessments, reports, curricula, and strange little apps that invite you to play with your inner world.

Collaboration

Adaptimist grows best through partnerships. Whether you’re a coach, a researcher, or an organization building emotional, social, and motivational intelligence, you can help shape what comes next.

We’re especially interested in lighthouse partners, training organizations, and research teams who want to work with personal intelligence in a way that’s careful, evidence-based, and genuinely useful for real people.

Lighthouse partners

Co-design pilots, test new features, and give feedback that shapes the MIPI ecosystem for future coaches, learners, and organizations.

Organizations & programmes

Use group MIPI data to build tailored soft-skills curricula for workforce development, leadership cohorts, or community programmes.
