If you're just getting started as a coach, or even if you're trying to reach a broader client base or bring new prospects into your sales funnel, you're sooner or later going to have to try your hand at marketing. The problem is, there are a lot of possible messages you could put out there. It can be really difficult to know what to say!
Marketing for coaches should be easier.
The first time I created a blog (way back in 2009), my messaging was all over the place. After awhile of spending a lot of time for little to no payback, I realized that I was trying to craft messages before I knew who I wanted to talk to. Not only that, but I hadn't really given any thought to who I wanted to work with. Consequently, when I did find a client, it was hit or miss whether or not we'd click together. That led me to feel that I was wasting my time, and I got very frustrated.
Maybe you've felt this too.
Wouldn't it be better if the people who approached you were exactly the kind of clients you wanted to work with? Even better, wouldn't it be great if the people you didn't want to work with just sort of stayed away?
Design your ideal coaching client.
If you design your ideal coaching client, you can create marketing messages that will attract them! And it's not that difficult to do. When you design a client, you're essentially creating a "buyer persona". A quick Google search will show you examples of this technique. Because you're a coach, however, your approach to this task needs to be a bit different from the approach you'd take if you were selling designer handbags or coffee experiences.
I thought I'd take a crack at this for you.
Below, you'll find a button that gives you access to a completely free, no-strings-attached, dynamically updating Google Sheet, that you can take and use to create your own client persona. I've also put together a short video on how to use the worksheet so you can get to crafting tight, client-focused marketing messages in just five minutes!
